When my boy was around two years old his favorite activity was to visit all of the fire stations in our local area. Each week, we picked a different fire station to explore and interview our newfound friends. He loved learning about the different trucks and their heavy equipment.

Meeting the firefights, who were so kind and inviting, made the visit even more enticing and fun. At times they let my son sit in the driver’s seat of the engine. Other times, it was trying on the helmet or honking the horn. These visits lasted until he was about age three.

All the fun facts we accumulated from our visits inspired me to go to my drawing board and sketch a few ideas. With my son’s input, those ideas turned into a story that I used as a teaching tool for my children.

The idea of publishing The Fire Truck Story came much later when I had the funds and time to focus on this project.
